We had just gotten
home from a vacation to San Diego. We unpacked the car, put Macey to bed and
then I checked my email. One particular email in my inbox immediately caught my
attention. It was from a young woman who was expecting a baby. She said in her
email that she was pregnant and looking for a family to raise her baby girl.
She wanted to get to know us more. And so we began emailing back and forth,
asking and answering each other’s questions, planting the seeds of what would
become a beautiful relationship. She called about 2 weeks later to say that she
had chosen us to be the family to raise her child.
There are no words…
We began the
preparations to go to Alabama, for this baby was coming in just a few short
weeks. We met in person the night before she delivered. It felt like 1) we were
on a blind date! And 2) we were reunited with someone whose soul we had known
for a very, very long time.
Her mom and I were in
the delivery room, while Adam and her dad waited in the waiting room. She was
amazing. Calm and confident, beautiful and powerful. It was incredible to see
her hold the baby on her chest. Breathe whispers of love onto his baby soft
hair. The biggest surprise for all of us was that the baby was a boy, not a
girl as the 20 week ultrasound had shown. We were over the moon excited for a
girl, but just as thrilled with this surprise!
Our relationship has
flourished. I truly consider her a dear and wonderful friend. We love Finn's
birth mom SO much!
Finley is one amazing
kid. He goes by many names – Finley, Finn, Mr. Finn, Mister, Bubba, Buddy. He
is tall for his age. He loves to eat. He has an easy-going personality. He
laughs easily. He is starting to say more and more words. He knows many body
parts. He has the cutest little shoulder shrug that he does when someone looks
at him and smiles. His eyes are to die for. They are dark, melted chocolate.
I’ve never seen eyes like them in my life. He is one of the greatest things
that has ever happened to our family.
